Though often depicted as a chameleonic artist who constantly “changes his style,” Joe Jackson insists that most of his albums are in “his own mainstream” - collections of sophisticated pop songs, using different kinds of rhythms and combinations of instruments.
The Portsmouth rocker found early success with his hit new wave singles "Is She Really Going Out with Him?" and "It's Different for Girls" in 1979. After he moved to more jazz-inflected pop music, Jackson achieved a worldwide hit with "Steppin' Out" in 1982.
