Cerddoriaeth Cymru: 9Bach Cerys Hafana and VRi

Cerddoriaeth Cymru:?A Celebration of Welsh Folk Music\n In every corner of Britain, there are tales to be told ? and great folk artists ready to tell them through song. Here in the Music Room, we have a proud folk music tradition, and so as part of our tenth anniversary celebrations we?re shining a spotlight on folk musicians from across the home nations, celebrating their countries and their music. First up, we welcome three captivating Welsh artists ? VR?, Cerys Hafana and 9Bach ? back to the Music Room.??\n 9Bach stand as one of Wales' most visionary bands, establishing themselves as a unique creative force on the music scene and breaking new ground by combining Welsh musical heritage with contemporary sounds. 9Bach?s music is a rich, textured soundscape, their songs reflecting their strong home roots, the free party scene, and their frequent international travels. Their music becomes a bridge between generations, capturing the complexity of cultural identity through sound.??\n Two-time winners of Best Album at the Welsh Folk Awards, VR? are a trio inspired by the incredible story of a time when Wales? traditional music and dance was suppressed by Methodist chapels, and, earlier, its language by the Act of Union. VR? shed new light on a vibrant folk tradition that harnesses the raw energy of the fiddle with the finesse of the violin, and the beauty of chamber music with the joy and hedonism of a pub session, all underpinned with powerful vocal harmonies. ??\n Cerys Hafana is a composer and multi-instrumentalist who transforms traditional music. She explores the unique, creative possibilities of the triple harp, and is interested in found sounds, archival materials and electronic processing too. Cerys has won over audiences from Green Man to the Eisteddfod, and from BBC 6 Music Festival to Celtic Connections with her magical, progressive sound, and her album Edyf ? hugely inspired by archival sources from Welsh history ? was selected as one of The Guardian?s top folk albums of 2022. ?
