Dean Friedman

Dean Friedman

Hailed by critics and fans alike as a one of the finest songwriters of his generation, New Jersey soft rocker Dean Friedman has achieved legendary, pop-icon status for his UK Top 40 hits, ‘Lucky Stars’, and ‘Lydia’, despite being considered a one-hit wonder in his native USA, where he charted with the 1977 single ‘Ariel’.

His insightful and compelling, collection of true-to-life ‘story songs’ - songs of pathos and humour that deal with family, friends, neighbours, work and the seemingly trivial, yet ultimately essential stuff of everyday life are showcased in his powerful, poignant and hilarious performances.

In 1987 Birkenhead band Half Man Half Biscuit recorded a song entitled "The Bastard Son of Dean Friedman", a claim the American considered improbable, as he was only seven years old when lyricist Nigel Blackwell was conceived, hitting back with the hilarious song "A Baker's Tale", in which he firmly placed Blackwell's parentage as being that of the local baker. He would later appear on stage with the Merseyside band.
