There are two workshops available on Sat 10 June, click on the links below to book your place. 12pm - 2pm - click here 3pm - 5pm - click here ? "I never would have thought I'd do a minute of stand up, but Claire gently led us through the various exercises, until you didn't really realise you were being funny in front of other people." Past participant of Find Your Funny ? About Claire Berry Way back in the 90's, I was a performance poet in Bristol, most of my work was comedic and I performed at many venues in Bristol and London including the Ashton Court Festival, Jesters comedy club and the The Arnolfini. My work was published in two local anthologies, I also feature on a CD (Monkeys with Car Keys) and in a HTV documentary?Hidden Voices?about performance poets in Bristol. I then went on to complete a degree In Creative Writing In 2001 at Bath Spa University. Before becoming a full time mum I worked for 10 years as a freelance theatre and drama practitioner. I wrote, facilitated and produced devised theatre shows for young people.?I also wrote a series of monologues for an adult audience often exploring themes such as addiction, abuse and social isolation using large doses of dark humour. Among others my plays were performed at The Rhondo Theatre ? Bath, The Alma Tavern Bristol, The Lowry Studio Salford, The Kings Arms, Salford, 24/7 Theatre Festival Manchester and Buxton Theatre Festival. After becoming a full time single mum I decided to get a sensible job and worked as an Events and Community Fundraiser at a local charity. However, after a bit of a big fat breakdown I ended up relocating to Liverpool 5 years ago, and as part of my mental health recovery I signed up for a comedy course at the Life Rooms. Ever since my time as a performance poet I'd always harboured a desire to try stand up and as I was not getting any younger it seemed like the perfect opportunity. I started gigging in 2019 and I now run and host Fem de la Femme, a monthly all women line up comedy & spoken word night downstairs at the Everyman, which, as it turns out, is a perfect combination of my events management experience, my passionate feminist leanings and my love of comedy and the performing arts.?
