Willy will be interviewed by renowned theatre director Matthew Dunster. Matthew directed Willy?s sell-out production of Shirley Valentine starring Sheridan Smith which is playing at the Duke of York?s Theatre in London?s West End until June 3rd.
Willy will reunite with Matthew to talk about his incredible career that spans more than five decades, and his modern classics that continue to be loved and revered by generations.
Born in Liverpool in 1947, Willy Russell left school at 15, became a women?s hairdresser, part-time singer/songwriter before returning to education and becoming a teacher.??
Russell?s breakthrough work, commissioned by Liverpool Everyman, ?John Paul George Ringo?and Bert? transferred to the West End winning Best Musical -?Evening Standard and London Theatre Critics Awards.??
